Heather Downing and Heidi Groesbeck stopped by to talk about Fifth Grade at Horizon Prep.

In Fifth Grade one of the main points of emphasis is the student taking responsibility for their homework and their assignments. Ms. Downing says "We want to grade what the student can do, not what their mom can do". The responsibility is on the student, not the parent.

They say one way parents can help their student take responsibility is by changing the way homework is done at home. Instead of telling them to do their homework, ask them "When are you going to do your homewoek?"

Pastor Bob Botsford joined us recently for the final PTF meeting of the 2016-2017 school year. He led a question-and-answer panel made up of Bonnie Botsford, Abby Mayall, Matt Davis, Susan Ferrari, and Dr. Kush.

During the meeting Pastor Bob and the panel answered questions about a variety of topics, including a status update on the hiring process for the next headmaster of HP, as well as questions about the new football program, the makeup of the church board, why our middle schoolers have so many different classes, and many others.

If you enjoyed this episode you should be sure to listen to episode 058. Dr. Kush sits down with Will Hicks and Shane Wetmore to discuss the future of the school without him.

Amy Caster and Corey Reschke join us to talk about the Fourth Grade at Horizon Prep. Amy and Corey have worked together for years now. Their chemistry in obvious in their conversation.

In addition to talking about the math and reading programs in Fourth Grade, there were several other interesting things Amy and Corey discussed. For many of their students, Fourth Grade is the beginning of independence and self-reliance. The students are responsible for taking notes during class and recording the homework assignments. There is still plenty of communication between the parents and the teachers, but the teachers let the parents know: It's time for the student to take responsibility.

This Thursday at 9:00 in the 300 Room on the Horizon Church campus is our end-of-year question and answer forum with Pastor Bob. To submit a question, be sure to send it in ahead of time to msmith@horizonprep.org.

Kaitlyn Cook and Erin Rose join us to discuss Third Grade at Horizon Prep. They discuss the math and reading programs in Third Grade and let parents know how much homework they should expect for their third grader.

Kaitlyn talks about the studying the medieval period for history and how that included a section on chivalry for the boys. The boys started racing each other to the door so they could be the one to open it for the girls.
